11 and a half months

We are getting close to Cadence's first birthday and party! Invites have gone out to about 40-45 people. It will be crazy! I have a feeling she will get pretty worn out. :)

Still no walking but lots of cruising around the furniture. She sometimes lets go when holding on to us but she pretty quickly crashes to the ground on her tush.

I noticed on July 12, while having a rare cuddling moment, that she was getting another tooth! This time on her bottom left, next to the two that are already there. Then James noticed one on the other side that was getting close to breaking through and now finally has. She now has 8 teeth! And I read somewhere that "most toddlers have 2-3 teeth by their first birthday." Not ours!

We also noticed her making a snapping sort of motion and have encouraged her to continue that by showing her how we snap. If you listen really closely you can hear her make a little sound. I have no idea where she learned that motion but it is pretty funny! She is getting really good at waving. She used to be great at just bye bye but now when you say hi to her, she starts to wave more too.

Cadence loves to feed herself and we have encouraged that with lots of finger foods like Cheerios, puffs, pirates booty, veggie sticks, yogurt bites, bites of chicken, freeze dried fruit (which she doesn't seem to like too much b/c it is tangy I think), and I even tried bites of a nutrigrain bar for lunch yesterday. She has started refusing baby food because of her new explorations with food but will eat off our plates. So if you give her baby food with one of our forks, she will sometimes take it. A new trick to get her to eat! :) After a few bites you can switch back to the baby spoon but she seems to signal that she is finished (by swiping her right hand against her left arm in a modified "finished" sign) and if you're not careful, she will hit the spoon and get food EVERYWHERE. When she's done, she's done and there isn't much you can do to get her to eat more baby food. And when she does that, she definitely isn't finished eating b/c you can give her more finger food and she'll go to town.

She has realized, when she wakes up from her naps, that she can reach the doorknob on the dark door by her crib. It is funny to hear her rattle it. We usually go and rattle it from our side which makes her smile. She wakes up pretty darn happy and in a good mood. She is still doing 2 naps a day but she has been taking somewhat longer naps in the morning instead of just sleeping from 9-10am, she sometimes goes until 10:30 or 11am! Not sure what that is about, maybe a growth spurt? Her afternoon naps seem the same, around 2 hours or so.

We had an earthquake here on July 16, at about 5am. It was centered in Gaithersburg but we could feel it here. It immediately woke me up and I thought the air conditioning was dying, even though it wasn't running at that moment. James woke up a few seconds after me and gripped my arm asking what was going on b/c we could feel and hear things shaking. I don't know what possessed me to say it but I said "I think it's an earthquake." It didn't seem logical for NOVA but I couldn't think of anything else. I immediately looked at CNN.com on my iTouch but of course nothing had been posted. It was confirmed when the tv came on at 6:20am. Of course baby girl slept through the whole thing. :)

I was in Nashville this past weekend for our VA Bronze concert at Pinnacle. I left Sat morning and was back just before Cadence went to bed on Sunday evening. I don't think she missed me too much. :) This weekend mom and I head to CT to start dealing with the house. We leave Friday and come back Monday night. 3 nights without my baby! It will be interesting...Then all of a sudden it is James' 29th birthday and then Cadence's first birthday! A busy couple of weeks coming up.

Here is Cadence hanging out with Brooke at Commonwealth Pool last week.
