8 month update

Last Sunday was Easter and Cadence turned 8 months old! GramPam was in Egypt so we went and got Poppa and had dinner at the Penns. We tried to take some pictures outside since it was a warm day and Cadence was dressed in her cute dress from Kristin and a bonnet from Valyn but she didn't want to sit in the grass. :) We did get a nice family shot that I need to get Mom to fix up.

Lots of changes since the end of March! Baby girl is getting FOUR teeth on top, at the same time! The middle two seemed to have just broken through in the last day or so and the outside two are coming fast. She does this horrible clicking of the bottom teeth scraping against the top but clearly it makes her feel better. I noticed it the first time when I saw a little blood on her bottom teeth from her gums. EEK! Its a horrible sound.

She is a raspberry queen. She blows them as much as she can. I have a hysterical video of her blowing some while crying. Its like she can't decide whether to cry or blow raspberries. Pretty funny. Might be another one to show at her wedding. She mostly blows them with her bottom lip but she seems to be figuring out how to stick out her tongue to do it too.

I've tried making homemade baby food. I made squash and green beans. The beans are going over better--I think I did something wrong with the squash. I think I should have added water or something b/c when I defrost it, the consistancy is all wrong. I'll keep trying to give it to her (since she had no trouble with bottled squash) and we'll see if it gets any better. Guess I know better for next time. I have some mixed veggies and peas to make too. She likes to gnaw on my banana---another great video so we'll have to try more of that. I bought some pears so maybe I'll have the guts to cook that and see how that goes.

She, within the last week or so, has done very well about holding her own bottle. If you put it in front of her, she'll grab for it and put it in her mouth. The fuller/heavier ones are harder for her but she's getting better every day. Early on, she would get about halfway through and just stop so you'd have to hold it for her. She'd also take it out, start playing with it and turn it upside down so the formula comes out. If you leave her unattended, she does that now so you have to keep an eye on her. She can't do it sitting up, only laying back, since she doesn't quite get that she has to tilt her head back to get the bottle high enough to get milk. :) I love this new thing b/c it allows me to not always have to stop what I'm doing completely to feed her. She's pretty good at it in the car too.

Her skin continues to be good and bad. We use the ointment once a day and slather cream or lotion on her. Doesn't seem to bother her, just looks bad. I'll be curious to see how it improves as time goes on and as the weather gets warmer. We've had some REALLY warm days this week which I was not a fan of.

Her night sleeping still rocks. Bedtime is 9pm, although last night she was pooped because she only took 2 naps at Oma's so she went to bed at 8:30pm and slept until about 7:30am. Yay! THat's the way it SHOULD be! This was the first day she went with just 2 naps. She usually can't go from 3pm until bedtime without a little nap but she made it. She was hungry which made her fussy too but we squeezed in a bath (lukewarm water even and she LOVED it no matter what, can't wait for swim class!) and she just zonked out. Since the temps warmed up, we gave her a smaller animal head blanket (I guess a lovey) instead of the holey blanket and she doesn't care. She just likes to have something to snuggle with for naps. But oddly enough, she doesn't care about not having one for bedtime. Her nap schedule as of 2 days ago was nap around 9am for an hour, nap around 12:30pm for 2 hours and nap around 4:30pm for an hour. At Oma's yesterday, she took the one morning nap, then napped for about 2 1/2 hours getting up around 3pm and didn't go back down. I'm going to try and see how we can make that work today. Since she woke up "later" this morning (around 7:30 instead of 6:45ish), I didn't put her down until about 9:50am. We'll see what happens!

We are done with pacifiers for good! SHe hasn't had one in about 2 weeks or so and doesn't seem to miss it. She loves playing with the tops of her bottles and when we're out at a restaurant, straws! I've also pulled out her stuffed animals and her musical table thing that she got from Grandma and Grandpa for xmas. She has quite the play area right now!

Screetching to be heard is a recent development. It always seems to be in public. :) She's not happy or mad, just sort of there and just lets out these ear piercing screetches. We're one of THOSE parents.

On Sunday, we lowered her crib. We still haven't seen her go from back to front and she hasn't done it again recently but we thought it might be time. I can't go in and kiss her goodnight anymore since I can't reach her. :) But I probably shouldn't wake her up anyway! As we were lowering the crib, we realized that we had put together the mobile wrong. I knew it was supposed to spin but couldn't figure out how and Pigpen fixed it. She was grabbing onto it and pulling it so we put it back the "wrong" way so she couldn't reach it. But its sad that it took us about 5 months to figure it out.

Since the weather has improved, I've tried to go out on walks to lose the baby weight. Cadence really seems to like being outside. Sometimes I take the stroller and sometimes the backpack. She wears her little Nationals hat and if she's in the stroller, she loves to chew (not wear) on her sunglasses. We need to buy some elastic things to keep them on her head. :) I also need to get sunscreen!

I have some cute pics on the camera but haven't had time to get them off. Its tax season and I'm trying to get them done. THe business is SUPER busy and we're not booking jobs for weeks. I suppose I shouldn't complain that business is good but Pigpen and I are both stressed. UGH.

We get to hang out with Kate and Gwen and Cheryl and Olivia next week so more then!
