9 1/2 months

Many exciting things have happened around the 9 month mark in terms of Cadence's development. She decided to stand up in her crip on May 8, the day before Mother's Day, which forced us to have to lower her crib all the way the next day! It makes it harder to get her out of the crib but luckily I can still reach her--barely. :) The crib is essentially set at the toddler level but with the front rail still on. We really went from the highest setting to lowest setting very quickly.

My first Mothers Day was low key. Pigpen (and Cadence) got me an edible arrangement which was way better than flowers. It had pineapple, strawberries and chocolate dipped strawberries, and grapes. It was really yummy and we enjoyed it for days. Saturday was Mom's birthday so she came over in the afternoon and we went out to dinner. Sunday was just a hang out day (Pigpen had to do Ensco) and although Cadence was a little cranky, it was a nice day. We did lots of things on Saturday--I, on the fly, decided we should put up the swingset which Cadence was taking her afternoon nap, so we did! We powerwashed it (which she slept through, even though it was right outside her window) and got it all set up. I'm hoping some kids will play on it at her birthday party. We thought we should get her a baby swing so we went out and got one on Mother's Day. She LOVES it! She smiles so big everytime we put her in it. Great $25 purchase.

Her overnight sleep varies these days. Some nights are great, some not so much. There are nights she sleeps from 8:30pm until 7am without a peep. Then there are other nights she cries randomly once, twice, even three times a night. Not sure what that is about. She usually sleeps with her hippo blanket lovey thing and if we give that back to her when she cries, she is fine. Sometimes, I don't even have to get out of bed--she stops crying on her own. I think it is weird how sometimes she will fall asleep without the hippo but most nights, she wants it. Her naps are pretty consistent though. 9am-10am then about 2-4pm (although something that nap isn't as long). She naps with the blanket or hippo, depending on the temps. It's been rather cool during the days so she's had the blanket.

We had our second swim class this past Monday. We're not quite sure how we feel about the swim class. She cried through a lot of the first class (but Brooke was having a ball!). Cadence calmed down once Miss Caroline, the instructor, gave her a little ducky to chew on. We are supposed to throw the duck and make the kids "swim" to it. I think her issue is the water temp and how cold it is. Maybe I should ease her into the water more slowly so she gets used to it. The second class was the same, but a little less crying. I guess we got used to the water more quickly. Jenna and I went to Wegmans for lunch afterwards which was nice.

I finally got the time to take Cadence for her H1N1 shot on Tuesday. I've been a slacker and haven't taken her. I wasn't sure what shots she was getting at her 9 month appt and I think you can't have the shot when you've had the MMR within the last month. But she doesn't get that until 12 months so it was ok to take her. She has to go back in a month for a second round. She handled it well--of course cried when she got the shot but an already prepared bottle stuck in her mouth quickly made it all better. Poor baby.

Brian and Valerie's twins, Sadie and Hannah were born on the 7th! We haven't met them yet but are excited to have more new friends!

I think I came down with a cold yesterday. Not sure where that came from but I'm just trying desperately to not give it to Cadence. We have a handbell concert on Sunday so I hope I'm better by then!

Here's a pic of Cadence enjoying her new swing.
