Big girl!

We're past the one year mark and going forward. Cadence had a big birthday party on Saturday with over 40 people there! We had 12 kids including her--Hayden and Olivia Lane, Hayden and Hudson Kitzmiller, Junior, Jordyn, Jessica and Julius, Brooke Vagias, Tripp Witzig and Alex Leonato! Lots of adults came too and we had a little pool party. The adults were Mom, Poppa, Lori, Arthur, Jeff, Dad, Karen, Denise, Alan, Judy, Pat, Jamie, Bill Swedish, Jen Swedish, Jason Holt, Kristin Swedish, Kristin and Leo Leonato, Kristin Banek, Kathy Hallock, Erika and Neal Salas, Cheryl and Josh Lane, Helen Fields and Glyn, Margaret and Jeff Sherman, Matt and Ryan Witzig and Tony and Lisa Kitzmiller. Cadence really handled all the insanity quite well and had no major meltdowns. I made her a small cake in the shape of a piggy and although she didn't quite know what to do with it at first, she finally figured out that the frosting was pretty yummy and she dug into it. She didn't get too messy but messy enough and we dunked her in the baby pool to clean her off before changing her. She got lots of nice gifts! A few clothes, some money for her accounts, lots of books and a few toys. We have very generous friends. I'm proud that I got the thank you notes out before a week went by!

Even with all the sugar from the cake she took a 2 1/2 hour nap after everyone left. She is definitely our little sleeping girl! She went down as usual that night but woke up around 9pm crying. It almost seemed like she was in pain but I think just wanted to be held a little. After a little cuddling she went right back to sleep.

Still no walking but lots of crawling. I guess one day she'll just let go but she isn't showing much inclination for wanting to walk. She is a little monkey though! She can climb up the couch and recliner all by herself and has taken to crawling up the recliner over the arm of it. It's a little scary that she can do all that but amusing too. At least she can get back down on her own!

Amazingly she has even MORE teeth! The two molars have come in on the bottom and I poked my finger in her mouth and felt a molar on her top left coming in! I don't feel anything on the right yet. That's 11 teeth at 12+ months! Poor Brooke only has 3 teeth at 10 months. :)

Since her birthday, James and I feel like she has gotten a little more fussy. We introduced whole milk on her birthday, mixed with formula but she didn't seem to mind the milk so we quickly eliminated the formula to save money. I gave the rest of the can to Jenna since she had given us a can awhile ago. Cadence seems to like drinking the milk but I was wondering if she was having some gas or something. She randomly starts crying, and not just whining but a full fledged cry. Not sure if she realizes that that gets our attention better or if she's in pain or what. She is quickly soothed if you go near her so it may be an attention/separation issue. It happens mostly when she's alone in the living room or in the car. I've read the symptoms of a milk allergy and I don't think that's it. She is definitely pooping lots but no diarrhea and no vomiting.

Trying to figure out how much milk to give her and how to give it to her was definitely hard at first. I think we've worked out a good system. The doctor said we should start trying to eliminate the bottle so I tried doing it immediately by giving the sippy cup a lot more. But she wasn't drinking much out of the sippy, so much so that one night, she didn't pee in her diaper at all! That got me a little scared so I've decided that instead of 5 bottles a day (like she was getting), she only gets 3. One in the morning, one before bed and one before her afternoon nap. The other two times she was getting a bottle is now a food snack with the sippy cup full of milk. She's good about drinking some at the beginning of her meal. At first we were offering her food then the sippy but she would push the sippy away. Now if we put the sippy on her tray, she'll drink some as she starts eating, before she's too full. And she still seems to eat as much. I just want to make sure she stays hydrated. I leave a sippy with water in the living room all the time so she can get to it whenever she wants. I guess over the next few months we'll start eliminating the day bottle and then the morning and night one. She clearly knows how to drink from the sippy but I think there is something soothing about the bottle for her.

Her hair continues to grow and be wild! You have to do something with it or else it is completely in her face. I sometimes do a clip but mostly do pigtails or one ponytail like pebbles. She is not hair or teeth challenged!

She eats lots and trys most everything. But she makes it clear when she is done. Usually she is just bored with a particular food and will move onto another one. I'm trying to be really good about getting her different textures and making sure she has good fruits and veggies. If only I could do the same for us!

I have been calorie counting since July 3 and so far have lost about 8 lbs, putting me at 137 as of yesterday. I'm definitely hungrier but love seeing results. Gotta look good for Kristin Banek's wedding on Oct 30!

Here's 2 cute pictures from the party.
