No walking yet but we can cruise pretty well using our walker. We are urging her to walk by the wedding at the end of October. :) She all of a sudden became gung ho with the walker one night right before bed (Aug 18). She doesn't always choose to use it on her own but if you put it in front of her, she cruises around.
I would have said Cadence had gotten a little fussier once she turned a year old but she seems to have settled down. It could have been teething since her molars were coming in, or the switch to milk, or separation anxiety (we don't have to be around but she likes it when SOMEONE is in the room with her) but I think things are getting better. She seems to like the carseat less and less for longer periods of time but I expect that. I sort of hope we can turn her forward facing soon so that we can entertain her better.
Although he toyed with the idea of being a one nap girl, we are back to 2 naps pretty consistantly.
On August 19, after stressing about how to take the bottles away, I just decided to go cold turkey again. I just kept offering and offering the sippy cups and she seemed to do ok and ingest enough liquid. On Aug 21, I felt we were doing good enough that I packed up all the bottles for the next baby. And we haven't looked back. She seems to be doing well and is definitely drinking more the last couple of days. But it has been hot. We keep water in the two blue sippy cups and milk in everything else. I bought some take and toss and had the best results with those at first b/c she didn't have to work hard for the milk but they leak a bit more so now we are back to the playtex and going strong. I just bought two more so I wouldn't have to wash them as often. :)
She has all 4 molars now (got the last one on Aug 23 or so) and we think we can see something coming in on the top but we can't tell if it's another molar or what. I feel like there isn't much room for any more teeth except the cuspids. I think I may take her to the dentist at our next appts in Jan.
On August 17, we had Drew come over and take some pictures of all three of us at Burke Lake Park. I think it was the hottest day of the year but we got some really nice ones. One is below.
We've started signing pretty well "all done" and "more" but we don't necessarily understand that they are choices. We're still working on milk and hungry b/c I think those would be useful. She loves to clap and is learning to blow kisses. She has also recently figured out that she can run her fingers over her lips and make funny noises which is really cute.
Jenna and I have started a "nanny share" each week. I take Brooke for a day and she takes Cadence for a day and we can get things done! We've only done it once for each baby but it's gone well so far. Brooke just loves to eat and not be left alone but if we can plan for having the girls for the day, we can spoil them with attention.
It's funny, sometimes she plays in the living room and pulls the tubs out from the toy storage thing and sits in them. She also likes to pull out her edible arrangements box and sit on that, randomly. I took a funny video of her sitting and playing with the tubs one day. She is in the sorting mode--taking toys out of it's container and then putting them back in. She even helps with cleanup in the bath sometimes and we have implemented cleanup every night before bed.
She has started to imitate talking on the phone but holding her hand or whatever she is holding (even a phone) up to her ear. Whenever she hears ringing, on the tv or in a restaurant or where ever, she does it which cracks me up. Guess our phones ring a lot!
We went to Virginia Beach last weekend from Aug 27-29. We left after the mowing crew left on Friday morning, picked GramPam up in Lorton and headed south. We stopped in Fredericksburg to look at modular homes after sitting in southbound traffic on I-95 so we didn't get to the beach until almost 5pm after leaving around 9:30am. It was a long trip and Cadence was tired of being in the car. We had hoped she would nap in the car but she only got a 10 min morning nap before we picked up GramPam and that woke her up and then she only took a 40 min nap in the afternoon. We went to the beach that evening for the first time, which she loved. Well, she loved the waves and water but not the sand so much. We went to the beach on Sat AM then left her with GramPam at Nancy Walker's beach house for a few hours to hang out. We took her to Northern Tool for the first time and she tried shrimp for the first time at Nick's. We left Sunday morning after her first nap but she only napped for 30 min in the afternoon on the way home. We decided to take Rt 17 home instead of I-64 b/c of traffic and it was a nice drive but a little longer. I'm glad we got home around 5pm though, instead of 11pm although she probably would have slept better if we had left later.
A funny story at the beach--on Sat night, I went in to check on her before we went to bed. She had been down about an hour. I could smell that she was poopy but didn't want to wake her to change her diaper and didn't want to let her sleep in it all night. Since she was on her tummy with her butt in the air, I had James help me by holding my touch with the flashlight and pulling her PJs pants down and I reached into her diaper from the side and pulled out the poop with a wipe. Luckily she had little turds, not a mush of poop so I could get it out easily. She slept though most of it but moved a little the third time I went in. She didn't seem to wake up but just rolled over. Are we bad parents? :)
The beach was nice and it was good to get away from home for a few days but the drive was really hard and I wouldn't call the trip relaxing, although it was fun. Traveling with a baby is hard---we took so much stuff b/c we didn't know what we would need and we didn't end up using half of it. It is hard to have a baby in the small cottage b/c when she napped, we had to leave the door open so the AC could go in there so we had to be really quiet. We tried to watch TV on low but you couldn't hear it so it was pointless. I think it will be better when she is older.
We are still limiting her exposure to tv as much as possible and have started eating dinner at the dinner table instead of in front of the tv b/c we all eat the same thing at the same time. Cadence has a little suction cup bowl that we give her some of our dinner in and she tries to use her fork or spoon, but mostly her fingers, to eat with us. I'm definitely cooking more and we only go out to eat about once a week. Now we need to get better about lunches... :)
Cute family pic at one year old!
