As she has gotten older though, and tries new things, she gets frustrated easily and whines quite well. It happens when she can't get a puzzle piece in or the like. At least you usually know what her issue is!
She is an inquisative child and checks everything out. She likes to touch things and see how they work. I love watching her little mind work as she plays with something.
Her sign language is great! Our newest sign is please and we know how to use it when we want something. When the Christmas tree was up, she would come into the living room and say "lights" and sign please so that we would turn the lights on. Very cute. We are working on thank you but she signs milk, juice (she can say juice too), more, all finished, bath, hi, bye, night night, and water. She can say light, hot, hat, da da (which I hear CONSTANTLY), ma ma, night night, bye, dog, sock and kitty. She, in the last couple of days, seems to be saying more, but it's mostly gibberish and I have no idea what she is trying to communicate. But it's more like a sentence and less single words.
She is a good eater and tries most anything. We usually give her utensils and she is getting better at using them. Sometimes she likes using adult utensils more than baby ones! It's a process and when she can't get the fork or spoon to work, she uses her hands. My BFF is the fruit and veggie pouches that are great on the run and she loves them. Any way I can get veggies into her!
As she understands more of what we say, James loves sending her on "missions." He has her take things to me or go get things and sometimes we use it as a distraction when she's in the way or being whiney or something. She's pretty good at it!
She has so many teeth that we're working on brushing her teeth every night. We sometimes forget but it's becoming more routine. We do it first and then she does it. She's pretty good about letting us do it. We are headed to the dentist at the end of the month so we're going to take her and see how she does.
Right before Thanksgiving, we finally turned her carseat around. She seems to enjoy being forward facing and I find it easier to keep an eye on her. It was weird adjusting to putting her in the seat differently but now the other way would probably feel weird!
Since we hit our deductible, I took her to the dermatologist again since her eczema was creeping back. Another round of antibiotics and some cream has helped, esp with the area on the back of her left leg that never seems to go away.
In Oct and Nov, she was so stuffy that I ended up signing her up for chiropractic adjustments since she was there with me anyway. She does SO well on the table and has only refused to get adjusted once. I have no idea if it makes her feel any different but I feel like it can't hurt, esp since she's usually there with me anyway. The other day, when the two of us were there in the private room, she accidentally pressed a button that raised the table up while I was on it. She screamed since she's been a bit of a scaredy cat recently with weird, sudden or loud noises but I was suck standing next to the table when I jumped off b/c of the electrode wires. Dr. Dennis, Kathy and Nancy all came running and it was just funny but Cadence was freaked out. Everything was fine though and she appears to be just fine after the incident.
Right around Thanksgiving, Brooke broke her leg going down a slide with Jenna! She only had to be in a cast for about 2 weeks and seemed to handle it quite well but we were very sad for our BFF while she was hurt.
We recently brought out puzzles for Cadence to play with, mostly animal ones and she seems to really enjoy them. She has gotten good about being able to put the pieces in the right place and it's a good way for her to learn animals and their sounds. She got one puzzle for Christmas that makes noise. Someone actually took a noise-less toy and made it noisey.
Cadence was a VERY good girl at Christmas. As usual we spent Christmas Eve at Aunt Dee and Alan's. I was a little worried about what to do about her naps that day because she is still taking 2 naps (more break time for me!) and we were leaving around 2:30pm to go south. She wouldn't take a morning nap so she ended up going down at 11:30am since she was exhausted and even though I had hoped she would take a 3 hour nap and wake up in time to leave, she only slept for 1 hour. So the hope was that she would nap in the car on the way down, but no such luck! We actually made record time down there since there was no traffic. She did great and wasn't cranky at all. She was pretty good during dinner (Aunt Dee was very impressed with her but we actually thought she was rather fussy for her!). She fell asleep in the car on the way home around 9pm and transfered just fine to bed. She was POOPED! GramPam stayed the night with us and to get Cadence back on a better schedule on Christmas day, we made noise to wake her up around 7:30am, much to GramPam's unhappyness. We had waffles and bacon for breakfast and opened presents. Looking back, we should have opened all of Cadence's presents first and then put her down for a nap but we went in circles and she started losing it around 10am. She took an hour or so nap and then we headed to Lori and Arthur's for gifts while Mom made her scalloped potatoes and took Poppa to see Nonnie. We did gifts with them and then came home for her afternoon nap. Lori, Arthur, Jeff, Mom and Poppa came over around 5pm and we had dinner around 6:30pm. I thought hosting would be easier but since our house (and oven) is so small, it was almost harder! We had ham, green beans, brussell sprouts, scalloped potatoes and I made a pecan pie and cookies. It was nice to not have to drive around too much and we were able to keep Cadence on her schedule. They were calling for snow on xmas but luckily it didn't happen. I would have been mad if James had had to go plow!
Cadence is still pretty little as I can't get pants to fit her right. 18 month things are too big around the waist and sometimes too long but 12 month are usually good around the waist but too short! Lori ended up hemming a lot of her 18 month pants that she got for xmas.
We had a big momentous occasion at the New Year--James and I slept at our house for the first time without Cadence! It was her first night sleeping somewhere without Mommy AND Daddy and she did great! We went to the Salas' to see the Caps play in the winter classic and because it was an 8pm start, we took Cadence to Oma's and she spent the night there and was a very good girl. I think I was a little nervous that she wouldn't sleep well and that would have been hard for Lori and Arthur but apparently she did fine. YAY!
Here is a picture of Cadence with Santa. She didn't cry! And there was no line at Fairfax Corner--we might have to do that again!
