A few exciting updates:
I'm still pregnant. We find out the sex tomorrow morning! I had a ton of nausea this go around, but only puked twice the whole first trimester. I thought it would be better to not puke but it still sucked to be so nauseous. Food was my enemy and as usual I lost weight. At almost 20 weeks along, I could still probably hide the fact that I'm pregnant from most people. The second trimester has been much better as food became my friend again about 14 weeks along. I started feeling the baby kick around 18 weeks, which was neat. I'm sure I won't think it's so neat as I get huge.
Preschool! We've decided to sign Cadence up for "preschool" starting right after labor day so she can have something that gets her some social interaction and learning and routine before the baby comes. She will LOVE it. I took her down to Chesterbrook Academy at Union Mill and left her there for a few hours for a "discovery time" and she did great. She was crying when I picked her up but that's because some other kid starting crying. We've decided to take her to Kiddie Country which is right off Burke Center Parkway (there's a second location at Old Keene Mill and Lee Chapel.) She'll go two days a week, all day. We stopped by there to see the facility and meet the kids she would be with. She is going to learn exciting things like staying on task and drinking from a cup--all things we're starting working on at home! She picked up the cup drinking very quickly and has perfected that, while in a highchair, pretty well the last couple of days! We will keep the sippys around for car rides and snacks. Thanks to GramPam for paying for preschool!!
Miss Cadence is still quite the climber and James taught her how to use her stool recently. She stands on it to brush her teeth and used it to get into her high chair. But she quickly figured out that she didn't need it for her highchair. She also found out she could reach things on the counter with the stool but that novelty seems to have worn off. She has also learned how to buckle things and can completely buckle herself into her highchair without any help. She can't do the big buckles in her carseat but can do the one up by her chest with a little help. She never ceases to amaze us.
We recently introduced coloring with crayons we have accumulated from restaurants. She scribbles but enjoys it, esp when we're out to eat which is a great distraction. She thinks it is hysterical when Daddy traces his hand and her hand.
Her favorite phrase is "what is this?" It's probably not the clearest sentence to others but we hear it constantly and she is usually pointing at something. She is eager to learn and she repeats what you say, esp the last word of your sentence. If you ask her to choose between two things, she usually just repeats what you say. "Is mommy having a boy or girl?" She says, "boy or girl." But not very clearly. She also recently likes to show that she knows who owns certain things or what things belong to whom. IE "Daddy's shoes, mama shoes, Cadence shoes." things like that. Recently she pointed to my car and said "mama car." Then she pointed to the van and said "cadence car." Too funny.
On May 26, at almost 22 months old, when we were at Fairfax Corner, she decided to start climbing a small number of stairs with no hands. There were about two stairs up to a stage type area and she went up them with no handrail and without putting her hands down. I caught it on video because it was so unexpected but she loved doing it over and over. She tried going down a few steps unassisted but only made it one or so before she reached out for help. I no longer really worry about her tumbling down a few stairs but ones with no carpet or ones that are really steep still get a baby gate.
Lori bought us a membership at Commmonwealth Pool this summer so I signed her up for swim lessons that started today at Oak Marr Rec Center which is where Jenna and I took Brooke and Cadence when they were younger. Although the water was cold, she did well. She doesn't really want to blow bubbles but she was a great kicker, esp on her back. I finally found a bathing suit to cover my slightly pregnant tummy but now I just look fat. Ugh.
We were at CSC in the baby pool area recently, at a social event for babies that we were the only ones that came to. The organizer was there as were 3 Robinson babysitters. While I was on the phone with James, Cadence got out of the baby pool, walked to between the table and gate, pulled her swimsuit and diaper to the side, peed, and then pointed and said pee pee. It was too funny! I had no idea she even registered when she peed but clearly she does. She does usually tell us she has pooped, but after the fact and she has yet to do anything on the potty (we haven't really pushed it since we're waiting for her to initiate.) So maybe we'll start potty training soon?
We had a play date with Suzy yesterday (she and her family are renting out Jenna and Wade's house while they are in Yellowstone for the summer.) She is 11 months or so older than Cadence but they had a blast together. Cadence got to ride in the power wheels while Suzy drove (with big smiles on her face) and they dug in the millings together. It was great for Cadence to be around an older kid and they both seemed to have fun.
We're still in our old house, waiting for the grading plan and building permit to go somewhere with the county. I hope to move into Lori and Arthur's sometime in July, sooner rather than later! James has been forced to take down the shed/shop because it is too close to the property line and wasn't built with any permits but he's already gotten a new 40 foot shipping container to put all his stuff in. Needless to say, it doesn't add much to the property. :)
That's all for this update! More as the pregnancy progresses, we move to Penn Acres and Cadence turns 2!
Here's a cute pic of Cadence with all her stuffed animals at 22 months old.
