Our 2 year old!

Cadence turned 2 on August 4 to much fanfare. We had 3 parties! One was a joint one with James, since he was turning 30 with the family (Judy, Jamie, Pat, Mom, Poppa, Lori, Arthur and Jeff) on July 31. The second one was on her actual birthday but since it was midweek, only immediate family came by for dinner and gifts. The kid party was the weekend after her birthday with Suzy next door, Hayden and Olivia, and Alex. She got some great toys and books and got really good about blowing out her candles after all the practice. I made her a tractor cake for her kid party which ended up being huge, but pretty cool. I think I'm setting some sort of precident like Mom did all those years ago.

A few highlights from the past few months:
1. Cadence first jumped with both feet off the ground on July 29, just before she turned 2.
2. We moved into Lori and Arthur's place right before James' birthday and our house was demolished soon after. Right now, as of 9/23, we have a big hole (as Cadence says) with footings and the start of walls. We are hoping the house will be finished around the end of the year.
3. When we moved, Cadence had a bit of an adjustment period sleeping wise even though we moved her crib. It took her about a month to get settled and start sleeping through the night again without crying. We bought a new baby monitor that allows us to talk to her so we don't have to go all the way upstairs to calm her down. It didn't always work at first but I haven't had to go into her room at all recently.
4. We took another swim class at Oak Marr Rec Center where we met our new friend Brooke and her mom Sarah, who was pregnant at the time (and has since had new baby Gabriel.) We learnd how to kick and blow bubbles and we had a blast most of the time. We didn't like getting dunked but we have to learn sometime! Cadence didn't perfect the blowing bubbles part until way after swim class ended but since Lori bought us a pool membership at CSC, we were able to practice all summer. Her favorite thing to do at the pool was climb in and out of the big pool at the ladder. We bought her floaties which gave her a lot of confidence. One day we even went to a different pool that had a big slide which Cadence insisted on trying and enjoyed about twice before saying she was done. :) Having the pool membership was really nice given that we were living at Penn Acres for most of the time.
5. We have been working on "please" and "thank you" and are doing quite well with both. She even says please without being prompted, especially if she really wants something! Now to work on saying she wants something without whining...
6. Our child loves her trucks. Mom got her a big truck book, similar to her small one and she can now identify lots of big trucks. Trash truck, tow truck, BIG truck, concrete truck, metro bus, school bus, bull dozer, dump truck, excavator, skid steer, etc. She loves to identify trucks going down the road and constantly asks James to watch the excavator and dump truck on his phone from when the old house was demolished.
7. She started doing sommersaults on the bed around 23 months. She won't really do them on the floor but I might get her into a tumbling class in the spring. She is really active and loves to run around yelling.
She finally switched from Mama to Mommy right around when she turned 2. She had been saying Daddy for awhile.
8. Cadence managed to sleep through an earthquake on August 23! It was right during her nap time and I was in the basement at Lori and Arthur's. The house started to rattle and there was a weird noise and my first thought was that Jeff was running down the upstairs hallway with his friends and I was pissed b/c he knew she was napping. But it kept going and I realized I needed to get out of the basement before the house collapsed on me. Once upstairs, and trying to call James who was fertilizing in Kings Park West, I debated about waking Cadence up to take her outside or letting her sleep since she wasn't waking up on her own. By the time I made a decision, the shaking had stopped. The pictures on the walls were crooked and a candlestick fell in Cadence's room (how she slept through that I still don't know) so it wasn't too bad. James and I couldn't reach each other because cell service was clogged but everyone was ok. The mowing crew didn't even feel it because they were working.
9. Not long after the earthquake, hurricane Irene came up the coast and we got rain. It didn't end up being as bad as everyone had imagined and Mom even went to VA Beach to ride out the storm.
10. In early September we managed to get a week's worth of rain from tropical storm Lee. I think we ended up with about 12 inches and our mowing schedule was toast. There was so much flooding and all we had a the property was a big hole. It was way worse than Irene. Weather has not been our friend this month.
11. Cadence went pee pee on the potty for the very first time on August 26. I think it was a fluke as I happened to be peeing and she was sitting on her potty next to me and I think the sound of my pee made her go. She stood up so fast and looked at her potty in confusion. She got lots of claps and hugs from Mommy and Daddy but there hasn't been a repeat. I'm still waiting for her to initiate a little more.
12. Her first real sentence was "close the door." She uses it A LOT and likes to close doors. "What is this?" is still common and now she says "Cadence do it" or "Mommy do it" a lot. She knows her name and that she's 2 if you ask her. If you ask her where the baby is or where Allegra is, she points at my tummy. And if you ask her where our old house is, she says "old house, all gone. New house, big house." It is really cute.
13. Recently she has taken to not sitting in high chairs at restaurants. She won't even sit in a booster. Our threat if she isn't a good girl is that she has to get in one. If we put her in one, she screams initially but calms down quickly. Her table manners have improved slightly. She is really good with silverware and cups, although she drinks more from a sippy than a cup. Stickers or our iTouch are good at keeping her occupied at the table when we're out.
14. Her first day of school was Tues, Sept 6! She wore her IH tractor shirt. She did great for 2 weeks but this week, she has cried both days when I/we dropped her off. We are wondering if her 2 year molars are coming in as we kind of see something but it is hard to tell. She had a small bout of not sleeping well again for a few days but has been fine the last couple of nights. Not sure what's going on but she calms down after we leave and is just a little clingy during the day. She clearly doesn't nap as well at school and appears to have trouble calming down to fall asleep at 1pm but hopefully she will get used to it. They do sleep on cots so that's a change for her. I love the little artwork she brings home--my favorite part! I'm getting lots done the days she is at school and I think it is good for both of us and will be especially good when the baby comes.
15. Speaking of baby, I'm 32 weeks pregnant. Due Nov 15. I'm tiny--I've only gained about 12 lbs or so but I feel pretty good. This baby is really active like Cadence was and gets hiccups like her too. She kicks HARD and sometimes into my hip which is really uncomfy. It feels like she is trying to get out through my stomach sometimes! I was feeling more tired and unable to do things but I feel better this week. Bending over is the hardest part. Erika, Katie and Cheryl are throwing me a small shower on Oct 2 which I'm looking forward to.

Hopefully I'll get another update going before the new baby comes and things get nuts! Between Cadence, pregnancy, the house and the business, there isn't much time.

Here's a cute pic of Cadence within the last month or so with her stuffed animals.
